Getting to and from Robertson
There are some alternatives to driving for people wanting to go to or come from Sydney, Wollongong and Canberra, between and beyond. Though the Robertson Railway Station no longer functions as a regular rail stop for passengers*, Robertson is about the same driving distance between the coastal stop of Albion Park Rail Station on the South Coast Line and the adjacent stops of Moss Vale Rail Station and Bowral Rail Station on the Southern Highlands Line. Complete information, timetables and trackwork updates can be found at the NSW CityRail web site.
The fastest train on the Southern Highlands line to Sydney is the Goulburn to Town Hall train that leaves Moss Vale at 8:11am and Bowral at 8:18am. It gets into Central Station at 10am. Coming back, the 3:48 train from Central, getting into Moss Vale at 5:56pm (Bowral at 5:47), is the only direct one. Other trains require transfers and take around 21/2 hours.
There are also several Countrylink trains from Central Station, the earliest being one that leaves Moss Vale at 5:02am (Bowral, a few minutes after that) and gets into Central Station at 6:55am. The next train at 9:10am gets into Central at 11:02am.
To get to the Sydney Kingsford Smitth Airport, the fastest option is via the South Coast line, with a transfer at Wolli Creek. If you're travelling with a group, consider taking a taxi from Wolli Creek instead of transferring to another train for a one-stop short hop. It'll cost less and will probably be faster.
*The Cockatoo Run operates heritage trains on scenic limited-run trips on select Thursdays and Sundays, between Robertson and Moss Vale in one direction and between Robertson and Wollongong or Sydney in the other direction.
CityRail operates a public bus service between Wollongong and Bundanoon. To Wollongong, it stops in Robertson at 5:30am, 7am, 3pm and 6:30pm. Towards Bundanoon, it stops in Robertson at 7:45am (only goes to Moss Vale), 12:35pm (only goes to Moss Vale) and 6:20pm (all the way to Bundanoon) weekdays.
Berrima Buslines operates services for the public and school students. Bus routes and timetables cover most towns and villages. Population densities in rural areas inhibit the viability of frequent daily services and after hours or weekend services. A north/south route runs daily every hour or so linking main towns and limited times daily to and from villages. Students in rural areas can experience long journey times due to distance and route.
Robertson Bus Service operates the local primary school bus run as well as offering a charter service for groups. Contact Grant or Maryanne Pointing on 0409 567 756 for more information or grantpointing(at)bigpond(dot)com.
A Bowral to Sydney Airport Bus operates daily to Sydney CBD and airport, which is within a one and a half-hour drive from the centre of the Shire.
